Biography

Aliya Gordon is a visual artist and dancer based in South Florida. Gordon earned their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking at the University of North Florida in 2021. In their work, they explore concepts of identity, connection, and rituals. In their visual art practice, they primarily use printmaking and mixed media techniques, as well as upcycling found objects into sculptural works.

Gordon’s works have been featured in exhibitions throughout Florida. After completing an inspiring study abroad program in Italy in 2018, Gordon exhibited their work at the University of North Florida’s Lufrano Intercultural Gallery. During their time as resident artist at Studio 18 Art Complex in 2022, they explored combining their existing knowledge of printmaking techniques to create a collection of mixed media screenprints. These prints were featured on display at Studio 18's annual resident artist exhibition, Praxis: Time Passing.

Currently, Gordon is honing their skills as a movement artist and performer, under the moniker Golden. After training as a pole dancer for close to two years, they began exploring aerial silks and lyra hoop training in 2023. In the near future, they hope to merge their two worlds of visual and movement arts to create 360 experimental performance art.
